MARKET DEMAND AND SUPPLY OF Cordia millenii (ỌMỌ) SAWNWOOD AND ITS EFFECT ON CONSERVATION OF THE SPECIES

This study examined market demand and supply of Cordia millenii (Ọmọ) Sawnwood in Bodija sawnwood so that stakeholders involved the economies will make appropriate economic decisions thereby ensuring sustainable utilization species. is made up nine zones comprising 66 blocks 1868 stalls. Five were purposively selected based on abundance Ọmọ marketers zones. Simple random sampling was then used to select 40 respondents each zone. Structured questionnaires data obtained analyzed using descriptive statistics. Respondents (89.5%) male, 75% between ages 30 49 years, 97% had formal education 70.5% been trade 10 29 years. (96.5%) stated there has a steady increase over (85.5%) claimed timber gotten from government forest plantations. Strength (37.5%), hardness (15%), durability (26.5%) appearance (21%) identified as major attributes influencing sawnwood. It therefore recommended forestry should deliberate effort conservation indigenous tree species through afforestation reforestation programmes.
